It's based on a Dickies zip-up worksuit and the headpiece is welded. Neither of these have been covered yet. The dragon is soon to grow its "skin" in the form of felt cut into scales which will be machine sewed on one by one. The headpiece will most likely be papier mache.... but could also be glued on fabric?

Any helpful opinions on 1) ventilation for the wearer 2) tips on good glues and supplies 3) piecing the headpiece and body together in a natural way.

Hello, I've been wanting to create a Grecian Sphinx costume for a long time now, and while it's still going to be a while before I'm able to create it, I'd still like to work on figuring out how to make it. And for those of you who don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about, a Grecian Sphinx is much like an Egyptian one, only Female. The top half of this creature is that of a woman, the bottom half is that of a lioness, and to boot, this creature has LARGE eagle-like wings on it's back. The forearms may or may not be furry, but that's just personal preference, I believe.

My question is how to make the legs look realistically like a large lion standing/walking on it's hindlegs and have the tail swing from side to side while the outfit is in motion. I've looked in Furry costume communities on LiveJournal.com as well as just doing searches, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I want to be able to walk in a normal gait, but have the effect of me looking like I'm walking as a cat on it's hindlegs might while wearing this costume.

So far I've seen alot about foam being used to mimic the look of the legs, but I've also got concerns about the feet -I want actual toes with nails, and hard pads on the soles, to mimic the pads on the underside of a cat's foot. And I'm wanting more height than my standard 5'4". -I've thought about investing in some strong platform boots but then removing the heel so I'm only walking on the toes of the boot...not sure if this would stand up well though to constant use. Plus, I need some comfort at least as I could be in this costume up to 10 or more hours at a time.

I'm also concerned about how to find realistic looking, but fake, lion fur. A nice short, golden tan would be perfect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking at doing this myself as I can't afford to hire anyone else to do it for me.

I want the waist of this outfit to be kind of low...under the belly button, but not 'dangerously' low. I'm wanting it to look kind of jagged...not a straight line, like I were wearing pants, but make it look believable. -Does that make sense?

So far I've pretty much figured I'll have to get some thick lycra leggings (want the fabric to last quite a while), then attach either snaps or velcro all along the leggings and to the foam so that I can detach the foam and fur suit from the leggings for machine washing. The fur would be glued and or sewn to the foam -the foam would be carved into appropriate shapes to make the thighs and back of the legs curved the way cat's legs naturally are.
The boots would be detachable as well, but have, again, snaps or velcro to attach the fur to the boots. I'm thinking that maybe it would be best to carve the pad shapes into the bottom of the boots..but not sure how that would look.
I'm not wanting the fur-pant-suit to be baggy or bulky. I want it to be tight, but comfortable.

While I may sound as though I've got this figured out, I truely don't...very lost.
Any suggestions or ideas? Even links to other sites for reference?

Thanks so much!!
